On Sunday, October 1, Fr. Lukasz and about 60 parishioners departed for the 86th Pulaski Memorial Parade “Celebrate Poland and America Defending Freedom'' to pay tribute to the memory of General Casimir Pulaski, a hero of both nations.
Around 3:30 pm we formed a group and entered Fifth Avenue with the St. Cyril & Methodius’ banner in front of us. Leading our formation were Fr. Lukasz Iwanczuk and Marshal Zbigniew Surdyka accompanied by his wife Anna, followed by former Miss Polonia Natalia Surdyka and former Marshal Zbigniew Przybyło. Right behind them were three convertibles carrying our beautiful Miss Polonia Natalia Janiak, Jr. Miss Polonia - Wiktoria Nowicka, Little Miss Polonia - Kasia Skorusa. The remaining parishioners followed. At the main stand, our church was presented by the announcer to spectators and participants, but most importantly, to a very special guest, the President of the Republic of Poland, Mr. Andrzej Duda, as a small, yet vibrant Polish parish from NJ. Then we went towards St. Patrick’s Cathedral and greeted the Bishops. It was almost 5pm when we left NYC - tired but very happy. After returning from the parade to the church the participants were greeted at the school hall with a delicious hearty dinner and refreshments prepared by several ladies-parishioners.
It was a great experience and a wonderful opportunity to represent our Parish again for the first time in 8 years.
